Saya sangat terkagum dengan beberapa penemu dan pengembang situs-situs yang telah populer didunia, seperti Google, facebook, wordpress, dan masih banyak lagi. Mungkin beberapa dari kita tahu pendiri dari situs tersebut, namun yang lebih mencengangkan lagi, kebanyakan dari mereka masih memiliki umur yang setara dengan kita(mahasiswa kaliee yee), yang berkisar antara 19-25. Berikut adalah 8 orang yang telah Sukses dalam mengembangkan situs dan meraih jutaan bahkan miliaran dollar. Sejujurnya, Tokoh-tokoh ini saya ambil dari situs andirewongso.com, silahkan dibaca.

1. Mark Zuckerberg (kini 25 tahun/asal AS)
Ketika menciptakan situs jejaring sosial Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg baru berusia 19 tahun. Ia membuat Facebook untuk membantu membangun jaringan sosial bagi remaja di kampusnya saat itu, Universitas Harvard, Amerika Serikat.

Kini, Facebook merupakan situs jejaring sosial terbesar kedua setelah MySpace. Di bawah pimpinan Sang Penemu, situs ini terus tumbuh hari demi hari. Jutaan pengguna baru terus mendaftar setiap bulan.

2. Steve Shih Chen (31 tahun/Taiwan-AS), Jawed Karim (30 tahun/ Jerman-AS), Chad Hurley (32 tahun/AS)
Keduanya adalah pencipta dari situs “berbagi video online”, YouTube. Mereka mendirikan YouTube pada 2005. Ketika itu, Chad berusia 28 tahun dan Steve 27 tahun.

Pada Oktober 2006, YouTube diakuisisi (diambil alih kepemilikannya) oleh Google. Nilainya: 1,65 miliar dollar AS (Rp16,9 triliun).

3. Jerry Yang (40 Tahun/Taiwan-AS) dan David Filo (42 tahun/AS)
Pada tahun 1995, kedua orang ini menemukan Yahoo!, situs mesin pencari kedua terbesar setelah Google. Saat itu, Jerry berusia 26 tahun dan Filo 28 tahun.

Tahun lalu, perusahaan raksasa Microsoft sempat ingin membeli Yahoo!. Nilai tawaran yang dibicarakan: 44,6 miliar dollar AS (Rp458,8 triliun). Rencana ini memang batal. Namun, Microsoft dan Yahoo! tidak menampik mengenai kemungkinan kerja sama di masa mendatang.

4. Matt Mullenweg (25 tahun/AS)
Matt Mullenweg adalah pencipta situs penyedia blog gratisan: WordPress. Ia mulai baru berusia 19 tahun ketika mulai menciptakan cikal bakalnya.

WordPress menjadi tenar dalam waktu singkat. Alasannya, situs ini mudah dipakai dan selalu diperbarui. Hingga tahun 2008, tercatat ada 230 juta pengakses tetap dengan 6,5 miliar halaman WordPress yang bisa dilihat. Lalu, ada 35 juta posting baru dengan tambahan rata-rata empat juta posting setiap bulan.

Matt, yang pernah datang ke Jakarta pada Januari 2009 ini mengatakan, ia tidak akan menjual WordPress ke perusahaan besar dengan harga’ selangit’. Ia juga bilang, tidak mencari keuntungan dari WordPress. Keuntungan sudah ia dapatkan dari beberapa perusahaan, yang dimilikinya.

5. Tom Anderson (38 tahun/Amerika Serikat)
Tom Anderson merilis MySpace pada bulan Agustus 2003. Ada kesimpang siuran data mengenai usianya saat itu, namun berbagai sumber menyebut Tom berusia kurang dari 30 tahun ketika menciptakan MySpace.

Saat ini, MySpace adalah salah satu situs jejaring sosial paling besar di dunia, yang bersaing ketat dengan Facebook. MySpace telah digunakan lebih dari 100 juta orang, dengan pengguna terbesar berasal dari kawasan Amerika Serikat.

Kelebihan MySpace terletak pada bidang musik. Ketika fasilitas musik terbaru (yaitu “audio streaming” gratis) diluncurkan pada 25 September 2008, hanya dalam beberapa hari saja, ada miliaran lagu yang didengarkan oleh para penggunanya. Kelebihan ini membuat banyak orang memperkirakan bahwa MySpace bisa mempengaruhi industri musik di internet.

6. Blake Aaron Ross (23 tahun/AS)
Blake Ross adalah pemuda jenius yang menciptakan Mozilla, fasilitas penjelajah internet. Mozilla diluncurkan untuk umum pada November 2004. Saat itu, usia Blake baru 19 tahun!

Mozilla kemudian digabungkan dengan Firefox, program yang diciptakannya bersama Dave Hyatt. Maka, setelah itu, namanya menjadi Mozilla Firefox. Dengan cepat, Mozilla Firefox diterima para pengguna internet di dunia. Ia, antara lain, dinilai lebih aman dan mudah dipakai (dibandingkan dengan para kompetitornya). Ia juga dinilai mampu merebut sebagian pasar fasilitas penjelajah internet, yang selama ini dikuasai oleh Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Banyak orang memuji kesuksesan Blake Ross. Direktur engineering Yayasan Mozilla, Chris Hoffman, mengatakan, “Dalam dunia ‘Open Source’, posisi seseorang tergantung pada keahliannya. Dan Blake Ross memiliki semua keahlian yang dibutuhkan.”

7. Pierre Omidyar (41 tahun/Perancis-AS)
Pierre Omidyar merilis eBay pada 4 September 1995. Saat itu, usianya 28 tahun.

eBay adalah situs lelang online. Awalnya, Pierre membuat eBay untuk menolong seorang teman dekat yang ingin menjual sebuah produk. Namun, tak lama kemudian, eBay berkembang pesat menjadi lahan bisnis yang amat prospektif. Kini, eBay adalah situs lelang online terbesar di dunia.
Menurut Pierre, dalam sebuah wawancara, kesuksesan eBay tidak lepas dari dua hal. Pertama, kuatnya komunitas penjual dan pembeli, yang jumlahnya mencapai ratusan juta orang. Kedua, nilai-nilai baik yang dianutnya. Dalam bisnis, eBay percaya bahwa pada dasarnya setiap manusia itu baik dan setiap orang memiliki suatu keunggulan yang bisa diberikan kepada orang lain. Selain itu, eBay percaya bahwa kejujuran dan keterbukaan bisa membawa kebaikan pada diri manusia. Maka, aturan “emas” eBay adalah mengakui dan menghormati setiap orang sebagai individu yang unik. eBay pun berharap para anggotanya bisa mengikuti contoh yang diberikan.

8. Larry Page (36 tahun/AS) dan Sergey Brin (35 tahun/AS)

Keduanya merilis Google pada 4 September 1998. Saat itu, mereka baru berusia 25 tahun dan 24 tahun. “Kantor” pertama mereka adalah garasi. Google, mesin pencari yang bisa menampilkan segala jenis informasi ini, disukai banyak orang – terutama para mahasiswa. Maka, hanya dalam tempo waktu beberapa tahun saja, Google bisa berkembang amat pesat dan meraup keuntungan miliaran dollar AS. Kini, Google bisa disebut sebagai mesin pencari nomor satu di dunia.

Kisah sukses Larry Page dan Sergey Brin dalam menciptakan dan mengembangkan Google telah menjadi inspirasi bagi banyak orang muda di dunia ini, khususnya para penggemar teknologi informasi. Mereka berharap bisa membuat program baru yang berguna bagi masyarakat dunia dan menguntungkan dari segi finansial.

Bahasa pemrograman Java pertama lahir dari The Green Project, yang berjalan selama 18 bulan, dari awal tahun 1991 hingga musim panas 1992.
Proyek tersebut belum menggunakan versi yang dinamakan Oak.

Proyek ini dimotori oleh:
- Patrick Naughton,
- Mike Sheridan,
- James Gosling dan
- Bill Joy,
- dan sembilan pemrogram lainnya dari Sun Microsystems.

Salah satu hasil proyek ini adalah maskot Duke yang dibuat oleh Joe Palrang.

Pertemuan proyek berlangsung di sebuah gedung perkantoran Sand Hill Road di Menlo Park.
Sekitar musim panas 1992 proyek ini ditutup dengan menghasilkan sebuah program Java Oak pertama, yang ditujukan sebagai pengendali sebuah peralatan dengan teknologi layar sentuh (touch screen),
seperti pada PDA sekarang ini. Teknologi baru ini dinamai “*7? (Star Seven).

Setelah era Star Seven selesai, sebuah anak perusahaan TV kabel tertarik ditambah beberapa orang dari proyek The Green Project.
Mereka memusatkan kegiatannya pada sebuah ruangan kantor di 100 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto.

membuat perambah Java pertama yang dinamai Web Runner, terinsipirasi dari film 1980-an, Blade Runner. Pada perkembangan rilis pertama, Web Runner berganti nama menjadi Hot Java.

Leaving aside the moral aspect of blocking advertisements, a personal firewall is not the best tool for that anyway. This is not the main purpose of a firewall, and neither its main strength. Some of them can block some of the advertisements from being downloaded, if you know how to configure them for that. Yet, there are better tools for that, such as Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.org), CookieCop 2 (search for the word cookiecop on http://www.pcmag.com), or Naviscope (http://www.naviscope.com), and there are many other programs as well. You may check for other alternatives, e.g. in Tucows (http://www.tucows.com/adkiller95.html).

Also here, a personal firewall is not the best tool for that, and there are other tools and ways which are more effective. These are cookie utilities. Since a tracking site uses a cookie to identify and relate the information gathered to the same person (or computer), by preventing the cookie from being installed. The tracking site will lose its ability to track things. There are plenty of cookie management utilities. Some of them are freeware, and some are not. CookieCop which was mentioned in the former section is one of them. Listing the content of a FTP is very simple.
You will need FTP Content Maker, which can be downloaded from here:

1. Put in the IP of the server. Do not put “ftp://” or a “/” because it will not work if you do so.
2. Put in the port. If the port is the default number, 21, you do not have to enter it.
3. Put in the username and password in the appropriate fields. If the login is anonymous, you do not have to enter it.
4. If you want to list a specific directory of the FTP, place it in the directory field. Otherwise, do not enter anything in the directory field.
5. Click “Take the List!”

Bagaimana cara membuat jaringan dengan metode peer to peer ( ad hoc )

Banyak metode digunakan untuk konfigurasi jaringan Ad-Hoc, berikut adalah salah satu contoh sederhana dan tahapan dalam mengkonfigurasi jaringan Ad-Hoc wireless LAN.

1. Dibutuhkan “wireless network card” pada masing-masing komputer.
2. Masuk ke “network card properties” dan set SSID dengan nama tertentu (unique). Pastikan bahwa anda mengkonfigure SSID dengan nama yang sama untuk masing-masing komputer. Jika tidak sama, jaringan tidak akan terhubung.
3. Masuk ke “network card properties” dan set “channel” untuk jaringan wireless yang akan digunakan. Pastikan anda mengkonfigurasi channel dengan angka yang sama untuk masing-masing komputer. Jika tidak, jaringan tidak akan terhubung.
4. Set IP LAN static pada kedua komputer. Patikan anda mengkonfigurasi IP komputer tersebut dalam satu subnet dan range yang sama. Jika anda set IP pada satu komputer 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0, pastikan komputer lainnya di set juga pada range (192.168.1.2-254).
5. Set “network card” pada mode “ad-hoc”, bukan “infrastructure”.

Dengan konfigurasi diatas, seharusnya jaringan ad-hoc anda sudah bisa berjalan normal.

Misal, salah satu PC anda terhubung ke internet, dan PC satu lagi ingin ikut/numpang dalam mengakses internet, anda bisa mengaktifkan fungsi Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) pada OS Windows, berikut tahapannya:

1. Aktifkan “ICS” pada PC yang memiliki koneksi internet. Catat alamat IP PC ini, yang akan menjadi komputer “host”.
2. Set “default gateway” “network card” pada PC yang kedua ke alamat IP komputer “host” (refer ke No.1).
3. Set “DNS server” untuk PC yang kedua dengan alamat IP DNS dari ISP anda.

Perlu diingat bahwa dengan “Internet Connection Sharing” (ICS) via ad-hoc wireless LAN, komputer “host” harus selalu “ON”, jika anda ingin PC kedua bisa mengakses internet.

Tahapan Test Koneksi untuk PC Windows :

1. Klik Start.
2. Klik Run.
3. Ketik “cmd”.
4. Ketik “ping x.x.x.x”, dimana x.x.x.x adalah alamat IP dari salah satu PC.
5. Jika “ping is successful”, maka jaringan anda sudah UP dan anda memiliki “full connectivity”

All Trojan horses are hidden files so you would need to go to the Files Option (click the View tab)at Control Panel and uncheck both the *Hide file extension for known file types & *Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)-boxes, then OK yourself out. You will then need to restart your computer and and go into Safe Mode by holding the F8 key down -(kind of at the beginning of bootup). When you’re at the DeskTop screen go to Start/ Search/ For Files and Folders and type up the NAME OF THE FILE & EXT (not PSW.Briss.C) but the actual name of the file, which would have shown up on your Anti-Virus software. You can delete this file from here, also make sure to empty your Recycle Bin.

I have had 4 trojan horses on my C drive and kinda figured out the above method a week ago. I deleted the Temp file (as these keep putting the same files back into your system) from the Restore folder after unchecking the hidden files boxes, then went to SafeMode to delete what virus files that were still there. My computer is now absolutely FREE of these pests!

P.S. I also have AVG 6.0 (the free one) & also the Ad-aware 6 and I use them every day as my kids love to play games from the Internet.

When I started blogging a friend of mine offered to host my blogs on his server. Since I have a couple blogs I’m definitely saving money by his kind donation.

That got me thinking about servers. I’m really lame in the technology department and have no understanding beyond the screen I’m typing on. So I start imagining what a server must be like. In my imagination a server is a giant, archaic looking machine in someone’s basement. It requires oil in the cogs to run smoothly, and has a steam pipe on top where puffs of smoke come out.

In my logical brain however, a server is not a machine at all. It’s an invisible virtual space floating around where several websites reside. It’s hard to imagine that entire corporations exist on a server, and if that server crashes the entire corporation is at a standstill. Come to think of it, if my friend ever got pissed at me and decided to pull the plug, that would be the end of my blogs as I know it!!

How does a server crash anyways? The imagination side of me is convinced that someone forgot to go in the basement and oil the machine. Similar to a car engine seizing. I can’t wrap my head around an inanimate object seizing or crashing. I just know that I don’t think there’s insurance for an accident like that.

I never knew when I started blogging, how addicting it would become. So much that when our serve DID go down once I felt like I’d lost a limb or two!

Chi-x began trading two years ago, soon to be followed by Turquoise, BATS, NASDAQ OMX and Equiduct. And there will be more. According to the dialogue so far, there are 125 or so MTFs registered with CESR across Europe.

Admittedly, many of these are broker-dealer based systems and services, but there are at least 10 pan-European MTFs registered, with Burgundy the next to launch.

So it’s obvious that not all of them can succeed, but having three or four in each area of service from dark pools to liquid stocks to all markets and eventually to derivatives, bonds, fixed income and other markets certainly seems to be on the cards according to the discussions here so far.

I’ll talk more about the other MTFs tomorrow but right now Chi-x is the one that shouts loudest, probably because it’s been around for longest and has first mover advantage. In fact, unlike BATS, NASDAQ OMX and Equiduct, it also had the advantage of launching well before September r2008 when the credit crisis hit, which is a definite advantage.

So Mark Howarth, the new CEO of Chi-x Europe – my friend Peter Randall left on the day I last blogged about this stuff in depth – stands up and presents some interesting slides.

For example, gross consideration for Chi-x rose steadily through to September 2008 and then dipped away as follows:

Now you may look at those numbers diving since Q3 2008 and think Chi-x should be worried, but that’s not the whole story in that, by the end of Q1 2009, Chi-x proudly claim fifth spot in the European pecking order of exchanges, closely followed by NASDAQ OMX Nordic and Turquoise:

Equally, market share of all the new Exchanges has been steadily rising. For example, the three new MTFs – Chi-x, BATS and Turquoise – are averaging around 20% of the DAX30 daily volume. That’s a wee dent in the Deutsche Bourse’s pie I suspect.

In fact, Mark claims that Chi-x’s research shows that there would be a significant shift in liquidity and market share to Chi-X and the other MTFs from the incumbent exchanges if best price routing were in play. This would be in the order of 17% of all orders for November 2008, 15% in December, 13% in January 2009 and 12% in February. The reason for the decreasing numbers is the decreased volume of trading during these months, rather than any uncompetitive aspects of the new MTF models.

In other words, and I’ve heard this from the other MTFs too, the fact that order routers aren’t smart enough to seek out best price in Europe right now is the reason why the liquidity sticks with the incumbents.

Not sure if true, but Chi-x claim their market share would have been 10.6% higher between November and February if the full price improvement transparency and best execution rules were enforced.

Port numbers are assigned in various ways, depending on whether the message is a request or a response. While server processes have static port numbers assigned to them, clients dynamically choose a port number for each conversation.

When a client application sends a request to a server application, the destination port contained in the header is the port number that is assigned to the service daemon running on the remote host. The client software must know what port number is associated with the server process on the remote host. This destination port number is configured, either by default or manually. For example, when a web browser application makes a request to a web server, the browser uses TCP and port number 80 unless otherwise specified. This is because TCP port 80 is the default port assigned to web-serving applications. Many common applications have default port assignments.

The source port in a segment or datagram header of a client request is randomly generated. As long as it does not conflict with other ports in use on the system, the client can choose any port number. This port number acts like a return address for the requesting application. The Transport layer keeps track of this port and the application that initiated the request so that when a response is returned, it can be forwarded to the correct application. The requesting application port number is used as the destination port number in the response coming back from the server.

The combination of the Transport layer port number and the Network layer IP address assigned to the host uniquely identifies a particular process running on a specific host device. This combination is called a socket. Occasionally, you may find the terms port number and socket used interchangeably. In the context of this course, the term socket refers only to the unique combination of IP address and port number. A socket pair, consisting of the source and destination IP addresses and port numbers, is also unique and identifies the conversation between the two hosts.

For example, an HTTP web page request being sent to a web server (port 80) running on a host with a Layer 3 IPv4 address of 192.168.1.20 would be destined to socket 192.168.1.20:80.

If the web browser requesting the web page is running on host 192.168.100.48 and the Dynamic port number assigned to the web browser is 49152, the socket for the web page would be 192.168.100.48:49152.

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) assigns port numbers. IANA is a standards body that is responsible for assigning various addressing standards.

There are different types of port numbers:

Well Known Ports (Numbers 0 to 1023) - These numbers are reserved for services and applications. They are commonly used for applications such as HTTP (web server) POP3/SMTP (e-mail server) and Telnet. Untuk mengerti apa itu inflasi, pertama kita harus mengidentifikasikan arti dari kata inflasi tersebut. Menurut kamus Ekonomi definisi dari inflasi adalah: Kenaikan harga dari sekeranjang barang atau jasa yan menggambarkan perekonomian secara keseluruhan.

Definisi yang sama dari inflasi tersebut didefinisikan oleh ekonom Parkin dan bade: menurut mereka inflasi adalah pergerakan kearah atas dari tingkatan harga. Ini berlawanan dengan deflasi, pergerakan menurun dari tingkatan harga. Batasan anatar a inflasi dan deflasi adalah stabilitas harga. Secara mendasar ini berhubungan dengan harga, hal ini bisa juga disebut dengan berapa banyaknya uang (rupiah) untuk memperoleh barang tersebut.

Untuk mengetahui bagaimana sampai ini terjadi, kita mengambil contoh 2 komoditas: Buah jeruk dipetik dari pohonnya, dan uang dicetak oleh pemerintah, dalam tahun yang sama terjadi musim panas dan kelangkaan terhadap buah jeruk tersebut, kita akan melihat bahwa harga jeruk ini akan naik, karena dengan jumlah uang yang sama sedangkan jumlah buah jeruk yang terbatas, sebaliknya apabila terjadi kelebihan stok dari buah jeruk harga jeruk akan turun, tujuannya adalah supaya persediaan jeruk tersebut cepat untuk habis.

Contoh diatas adalah skenario dari inflasi dan deflasi yang dalam dunia nyata inflasi dan deflasi berubah dalam rata-rata harga dari barang atau jasa dan hal ini terjadi bukan hanya sekali.

Recently, a man was arrested at a mall restaurant in Edmonton, Canada. In his possession were thumb drives and computer printouts filled with credit card account data stolen from hundreds of U.S. and Canadian customers. Several prepaid gift cards issued by Visa and MasterCard as well as a device for embedding data on a magstripe were also found.

This follows the exposure of a Miami fraud ring in which six men used counterfeit credit cards to buy Wal-Mart gift cards. The men then used the cards to purchase $1 million in items at Sam’s Club, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart.

When browsing a web page which has lots of beautiful pictures, graphics, photos and images, or has embedded Flash video, or has attractive icons and other media components or elements, Firefox 3 can download and save all of these graphics and media on the web page altogether at once simultaneously, without any plugin, extension, add-on or third party programs.

To download and save all web page’s graphics, images, icons, media and other files, click on the site identification icon to the left of the Location Bar.

The Site Identity Information button is the new feature of Firefox 3, and normally represented by the favorite icon (favicon.ico) of the website. When clicked, a dialog will display information about the site with a “More Information” button. Click on the More Information… button to open “Page Info” dialog panel.

Click on the Media tab. All elements such as background, image, icon and embed on the web pages are listed in the elements listing, together with their respective address link location. Some graphics even come with a preview. Select and highlight any element that wants to be saved, then click on Save As button.

To download and save all file elements on the web pages, press Ctrl-A to select all (everything), then click on Save As.

1. Memperbaiki Instalasi (Repair Install)
Jika Windows XP Anda rusak (corrupted) dimana Anda tidak mempunyai sistem operasi lain untuk booting,Anda dapat melakukan perbaikan instalasi (Repair Install) yang bekerja sebagaimana setting (pengaturan) yang awal.

- Pastikan Anda mempunyai kunci (key) Windows XP yang valid.
- Keseluruhan proses akan memakan waktu kurang lebih 1/2 atau 1 jam, tergantung spek komputer Anda.
- Jika Anda dimintai password administrator, sebaiknya Anda memilih opsi perbaikan (repair) yang kedua,
bukan yang pertama.
- Masukkan CD Windows XP Anda dan lakukan booting dari CD tersebut.
- Ketika sudah muncul opsi perbaikan kedua R=Repair, tekan tombol R
Ini akan memulai perbaikan.
- Tekan tombol F8 untuk menyetujui proses selanjutnya “I Agree at the Licensing Agreement”
- Tekan tombol R saat direktori tempat Windows XP Anda terinstal. Biasanya C:\WINDOWS
Selanjutnya akan dilakukan pengecekan drive C: dan mulai menyalin file-file.
Dan secara otomatis restart jika diperlukan. Biarkan CD Anda dalam drivenya.

Everyone can name someone who’s nice, pretty, smart, funny, etc. Want to impress that certain girl? Here’s what to do and what not to do.

Be well-groomed. Brush your teeth, floss, shower, wash your hair, and apply acne medicine (if you have a problem with your skin) daily. Don’t wear your pants off your butt, often called “sagging”, it’s not that attractive to the majority of girls. This is essential if you are even going to approach an attractive girl. Wear clean, attractive clothes (if in doubt, get an older sister or close female friend to help you in this department).Don’t wear skin tight clothes either.
Have a great attitude. Be fun to hang around with, easy to laugh with, and be outgoing. Just don’t be full of yourself. Don’t try to impress everyone - girls like humble guys. At the same time, a sense of humor is always a plus.
Show respect. If you respect everyone and give them their space, they’ll all respect you. With girls, it works even better. If they see you respecting everyone, and not getting pushed around while you’re at it, they will be reassured that you will treat them right. Be kind to all.
Have good conversations. Don’t talk about how you beat the King Black Dragon in Runescape… unless you know them well enough that you know they are at least semi-interested (otherwise, it’s just a big jumble to her). Try to aim for you both to be speaking 50% of the time, but make sure that you are saying something worthwhile; it’s not attractive when only one person talks endlessly.
Show interest in her - let her talk. The #1 mistake when talking to a girl is focusing on yourself. Girls are way more comfortable when they talk about common interests. Ask about their interests, hobbies, favorite books, music, etc. but not in that stalker kind of way. If she asks you a question, answer it in a few, short sentences and then redirect the question back at her. This engages her in the conversation. When in doubt, compliment her.
Try flirting! If you both make eye contact, do not be the one to look away, but do not stare for too long. When you both make eye contact, just give a slight smile. She may look away and she might blush a little. Be careful though; you don’t want to stare her down. A good move is to look away, and if she likes you she will shoot you glances. Watch for that. And be chivalrous. Open doors. Give Gifts. Do kind things. Girls love that.
Respect her friends and their ideas and opinions. Always speak highly of her and never talk trash about her. It will damage her reputation and yours and she’ll possibly dump you. Of course, her friends are going to tell her that you trash talked her. Hopefully then it will work both ways - she will be tolerant of your friends. Be careful not to compliment her friends too much, however. Example: You may say “Your friends seem cool. We should hang out with them and my friends some time, I think they’d get along”. You may not say “Sally is so hot. She has the nicest eyes”.
Have your friends be nice to her It’s a fantastic thing when your friends don’t make a total fool of you. Warn them ahead of time and avoid topics pertaining to embarrassing moments of your past or awkward jokes that make very little sense.
Be polite to her parents. Be kind to everyone, especially them. Don’t be too over-the-top charming with the parents, however, or they’ll think that you have something to hide.
Don’t criticize her. Unless she asks for constructive criticism. And even then she probably wants you to compliment her.
Be romantic, but not over the top. If you’ve been dating for a while you may attempt a grand romantic gesture (note: “A while”=a month MINIMUM) otherwise, you’ll look like a stalker.
Start talking to her casually. If you don’t know her, make friendly conversation. Ask for the time, and/or compliment her watch.
Do not play “hard to get”. Sure, you’ll get their attention for a day or two then after a while, the girl will end up frustrated or think that you hate her for whatever reason, and she’ll think you don’t find interest in her anymore. Or if she likes a guy who’s like that, her friends might not like you because you’re acting like a jerk (this happens way too much).
Be careful with what you say. Remember, Hotty McHotterson is not your pal Lenny. Do not discuss bodily functions in her presence, or make jokes of a sexual nature unless she starts doing so.
Hum a few bars of a song she likes around her. She might think of you whenever she hears that song. And she’ll probably be impressed by your good taste in music. Some girls have actually dumped guys or stopped liking guys when they insulted the music they like. So, it’s OK not to like her music, but don’t be insulting her favorite singer/band! Try to agree with her as much as possible but not so over the top that she knows your not being yourself. Make sure the song is not overtly feminine however. For instance, a Killers song is okay, an Ashley Tisdale song, not so much.
Start an inside joke with her! She will feel included and become closer to you. It also gives you an easy-to-come-up-with conversation starter. Try not to overuse it and kill the joke.
End later meetings with a hug, or plans to meet some other time, if you can.
Do not tell her that you “like her”. Ask her out. If she rejects you, all is well. Example: You: “Betty, want to go to dinner on Saturday night?” Betty: “Sorry, I just think of you as a friend” You: “Oh, no offense. A bunch of us were talking about going, and I thought you might like to join us.”

Payment procesor adalah pihak ketiga yang menangani jual beli menggunakan mata uang internet.

Kesimpulannya, jangan pernah mengikuti Autosurf apapun juga! 99% semua autosurf SCAM. Sebagus apapun websitenya, sebesar apapun keuntungan yang mereka bisa berikan, sebesar apapun janji mereka, jangan dipercaya karena semua itu tidak benar.

7. EBook Selling
Ebook Selling adalah bisnis berjualan eBook melalui internet. Contohnya adalah SugihDuit.com yang memberi Anda komisi 50% jika merekomendasikan produk eBook-nya ke konsumen. Caranya sederhana saja. How to Upgrading to Windows XP Pro from Windows NT/2000

Upgrading from Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 to Windows XP is, unlike the 9x/Me upgrade, guaranteed to be relatively painless for most users. This is because Windows XP is simply the next version of the NT/2000 product family, and it doesn’t represent a major architectural change from those previous versions. As you probably know, Windows 2000 was to have been called Windows NT 5.0 before the marketing droids at Microsoft got a hold of it. Well, on that note, XP is really NT 5.1, a version number that should conjure up images of a relatively minor upgrade.

And it is, especially for Windows 2000 users. This is because, at its heart, XP is simply Windows 2000 with a new task-based user interface, improved application and hardware compatibility, and other small features. During the development of Windows 2000, Microsoft did all the hard work of making the NT 4.0 upgrade as seamless as possible, and this work is carried over for XP. For 2000 users, the upgrade is even simpler, because there are relatively few changes under the hood. All in all, most modern PCs running NT 4.0 or 2000 should be easily upgradeable to XP.

A cautionary note, however. Unlike the 9x/Me upgrade, the NT/200 does not offer any uninstallation capabilities, so it’s a one way street: Once you begin the upgrade, the only way back to your previous OS is to wipe out the hard drive and reinstall from scratch. For this reason, I advise carefully backing up your files and settings before proceeding with the upgrade. Not coincidentally, Microsoft offers a tool that does just this, the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. But this tool will only restore your backup to an XP box, so it might be better to use a traditional backup program for this just in case.

Understanding NT 4.0-specific issues
Windows NT 4.0 users upgrading to Windows 2000 or XP won’t get the benefit of the new directory structure, which places user profiles in the C:\Documents and Settings folder by default, rather than C:\WINNT\Profiles. It’s not a big deal, but NT 4.0 systems upgraded to 2000/XP will retain the old directory structure.

Also, the version of NTFS used in XP is much more recent than that used in NT. As I recall, NT 4.0 SP5 added support for NTFS 3, which was used in Windows 2000. XP, however, uses NTFS 3.1, so if you decide to later wipe out XP for some reason and reinstall NT, you’ll have to remove the XP partition, re-create it, and format it again during NT Setup.

Pre-installation checklist
Before you upgrade to XP, there are just a couple of things to think about.

1. Don’t bother with the latest system updates - Because XP includes the latest security and product updates from Microsoft, there’s precious little reason to update the system before upgrading.

2. Run scan disk and the disk defragmenter before upgrading. Upgrading to XP is going to cause a lot of damage to the structure of files on your system, so you might as well clean it up first. You’re going to want to defrag the disk after installation too, however, but getting the hard disk off on the right foot will speed the upgrade.

3. Run the Upgrade Advisor and see whether you’re going to need any updated drivers or software updates. If so, download them now and have them on the hard dri

ve so you can install them after XP is installed.

4. Backup - As previously mentioned, backup your critical data. There is no way back if the XP upgrade fails for some reason.

alexa widget adalah kotak kecil yang disediakan oleh situs alexa untuk memperlihatkan ranking/urutan situs anda di dunia. alexa sendiri merupakan suatu situs survei paling populer di dunia, jadi, biasanya alexa ini dijadikan rujukan untuk melihat kepopuleran suatu situs. nah, dengan anda memasang alexa widget ke dalam situs/blog anda, maka anda bisa melihat sejauh mana tingkat kepopuleran situs anda di dunia. lihat saja, peringkat pertama paling populer di dunia menurut alexa adalah yahoo.com, setelah itu peringkat dua dipegang oleh google, peringkat ketiga oleh youtube, peringkat ke empat saya kurang tahu, dan peringkat kelima dipegang oleh facebook. sedangkan blogger sendiri berada di urutan 9, friendster di urutan 42, dan google.co.id berada di peringkat 99. dan bisa anda lihat sendiri (di pojok kanan bawah) blog saya berada di peringkat dengan nominal jutaan, maklum, karena blog saya ini baru saya buat belum ada sebulan yang lalu (ketika artikel ini saya tulis)... :)

1. dari start --> clik kanan my computer --> pilih manave

2. pada local user dan groups pilih users

Error tersebut muncul ketika saya mau menambah printer pada server OS 2003, biasanya cara menambahnya hanaya dengan membuaka sharingan (dari run mis: \\172.22.1.73) kemudian printer nya di double clik. Tapi kali ini yang muncul “Windows cannot connect to printer. Operation could not be completed

”

Solusi lain untuk meng add printer:

Start à settings à printer and fax
Dari menu add new à next

pilih local printer attached to this computer

uncheck automatically detect

kemudian next.

Pilih create a new port type of point : local port

Kemudian click next

Dan akan muncul tampilan berikut dan isi dengan “computer printer sharingnya”

click ok dan pilih model printernya

misallnya aku menggunank generic dengan driver generics ibm graphics 9pin

Sometimes we can not get into windows when the process is finished booting the BIOS. Error message that appears as follows:

NTLDR is Missing
Press any key to restart

Boot: Could not find NTLDR
Please insert another disk

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart

Causes:

1. Computer from booting to a non-bootable source.
2. A computer hard drive is set correctly in the BIOS.
3. NTLDR file and / or NTDETECT.COM damaged.
4. Boot.ini configuration file error.
5. Upgrading from Win95, 98, ME atu still using FAT32.
6. Added a new hard drive.
7. Boot sector / Master Boot Record (MBR) is broken.
8. Serious damage to the version of WinXP or Win2000.
9. Loose / damaged cable IDE / EIDE hard disk.

Solutions:
1. Computer from booting to a non-bootable source.
Most of this error is caused when the computer tries to boot from the floppy disk or CD-ROM non-bootable. Make sure that the first ga-floppy diskette is in the computer, but are doing it to boot from the diskette.

- Place the Windows XP bootable CD to a computer
- When the message appears [press any key to boot from the CD], press any key.]
- When entering a Windows XP setup menu press the “R” to repair (Repair) windows.
- Sign in to Windows installation by pressing the button “1″ and press Enter.
- Enter the administrator password if prompted. hit enter
- Copy the files NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the CD-ROM to the directory C: \, the assumption in the CD-ROM drive letter “E”

E: \> copy e: \ i386 \ ntldr c: \
E: \> copy e: \ i386 \ ntdetect.com c: \

-Virus JPEG:Selama ini file-file gambar GIF,JPG,JPEG,TIF,PIC,dan sebagainya,dinyatakan aman dari Virus.Namun sejalan dengan perkembangan virus dan teknik pemograman,hal ini atau persepsi ini sudah tidak berlaku lagi.

Virus baru jenis ini yang pertama kali disebarkan melalui Instant Messenger America Online.

Dalam kasus yang berbeda,sebuah gambar porno juga disebar milis-milis porno yang apabila dibuka akan menyebabkan gannguan pada sistem komputer.Namun sejauh ini gambar belum bisa dikategorikan virus karena tidak mampu untuk menggandakan atau menyebarkan dirinya.Meski demikian,gambar ini mengandung kode yang dapat menyebabkan komputer,bisa diambil alih oleh pihak lain atau sang pembuat gambar tersebut.

-Virus HP/Smartphone:MEskipun Virus yang menyerang handphone masih dipandang sebelah mata orang(alah kata-katanya) para analisis security.Tetapi Virus ini nantinya akan berkembang pesat dan menjadi masalah unuk semua orang.Contohnya saat pertama Virus Worm Melissa menyebar dan menjadi pusat perhatian dunia.

-Virus Worm Cabir:Virus yang ada di handphone ini adalah virus yang pertama ditemukan pertama kali.Meskipun sifatnya tidak merusak handphone yang terinfeksi via bluetooth ini.Cabir menyebar dalam bentuk file SIS.

Mencegah serangan hacker pada Windows XP.

1. Memblokir Remote Access => Utk mencegah PC anda diambil alih oleh Hacker,nonaktifkan Remote Access. Dlm menu Start, klik kanan pada "My Computer" & pilih "Properties". Maka ada tampilan "System Properties", kemudian pilih tab "Remote", singkirkan/hilangkan tanda ( V ) yg ada didepan semua option yg ada utk menonaktifkannya. Kemudian klik "OK".

2. Menghapus User Account yg tdk terpakai => Pada "Windows XP Professional" terdapat beberapa user account yg dapat diakses melalui trojan & dimanfaatkan utk melakukan penyerangan. Utk menyingkirkannya pilih menu Start, pilih "Control Panel", pilih "Performance and Maintenance". Kemudian pilih "Administrative Tools", Klik 2 kali "Computer Management". Pilih "Local Users and Groups", pada sisi kanan klik 2 kali pd bagian "Users". Hapuslah account2 lama yg tdk anda gunakan ( gambar users yg ada tanda X ). Kemudian tutuplah tampilan2 tadi.

3. Menutup celah NetBIOS => File2 dokumen anda bisa diakses melalui Internet maka nonaktifkanlah NetBIOS. Dlm menu Start, klik kanan pada "My Network Place" & pilih "Properties". Maka ada tampilan "Network Connections". Kemudian klik kanan icon koneksi internet yg tersedia, pilih "Properties". Jika ada tampilan, pilih tab "Networking". Beri tanda ( V ) yg ada didepan "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), kemudian klik tab "Properties" yg ada dibawahnya. Maka ada tampilan "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties", pilih tab "Advanced". Tampilan ada lagi "Advaced TCP/IP Settings", pilih tab "Wins", lalu pilih "Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Klik 'OK".

4. Penanggulangan terhadap BO2K pada Windows 9x => BO2K dapat dilacak dgn scanning port. Biasanya pd Windows 9x yg terbuka portnya hanya satu yaitu port 139 (NetBios). Oleh karena itu perlu dicurigai jika kita mengetahui ada port lain selain port 139 yg terbuka. Program anti virus yg beredar saat ini dapat mendeteksi keberadaan program ini. Pastikan anda sudah melakukan download versi terbaru dari program anti virus. Rajin2 lah membuka registrasi Windows. Biasanya pd Windows 9x, karena BO2K menanamkan dirinya pada

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\

CurrentVersion\RunServices"

atau pada

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\

CurrentVersion\Run".

5. Pengamanan BIOS pada Server => BIOS merupakan perangkat lunak aras rendah yg berguna utk melakukan konfigurasi atau manipulasi hardware pada PC berbasis x86. MS Windows maupun Lilo dari Linux menggunakannya utk menentukan prosedur melakukan booting pada PC anda. Anda perlu memproteksi BIOS anda dgn memberi password padanya. Cara ini juga berguna utk mencegah penggunaan booting up melalui floppy disk. Cara ini tdk memberi perlindungan secara maksimal pada PC anda, namun dapat mempersulit org lain utk mengacak2 PC anda. Perlu diingat bahwa BIOS saat ini menggunakan metode flashroom, yg memungkinkan kita utk mengubah konfigurasi atau bahkan menghapusnya sama sekali.

6. Penyalahgunaan CGI Shell pada Unix/Linux => Ada beberapa cara yg cukup ampuh utk menanggulanginya :
a. Anda pasang Chrooted-Jail pada Apache anda sehingga perintah yg dapat dijalankan dapat anda batasi.
b. Utak-atik Source Code dari fasilitas CGI yg akan anda berikan misalnya Perl, kemudian anda matikan fasilitas fungsi system ( )…
c. Minimalisasi terjadinya eksploit local pada sistem anda dgn sering mengutak-atik & mengikuti perkembangan berita seputar sekuriti.

7. Menghapus komponen COM yg tdk dibutuhkan pd Windows 2000/XP => Beberapa komponen COM yg tdk dibutuhkan oleh hamper semua aplikasi harus dihapus. Pertimbangkan dulu sebelum menghapusnya karena setiap komponen saling berhubungan dgn file system & dictionary object. Dalam menu Start pilih Internet Explorer, pada menu”Tools” pilih “Internet Options”. Jika ada tampilan, pilih tab “Connections”. Didalam “Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Setting” hapus COM yg tdk dibutuhkan dgn mengkliknya lalu pilih “Remove”. Kemudian klik “OK’.

8. Mengaktifkan Firewall => Agar Hacker & penyerang tidak sampai ke PC anda, dibutuhkan sebuah Firewall. Dengan Firewall, anda dapat memblokir beberapa port yg kerap diserang Hacker. Kami sarankan anda memakai McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 2004, McAfee Internet Security Suite 6.0 & ZoneAlarm.

9. Menginstalasi Anti Virus => Software antivirus tidak hanya menyingkirkan virus, worm, atau file perusak lainnya tetapi juga melindungi PC dari ancaman serangan Script di website. Kami sarankan anda memakai program antivirus McAfee VirusScan Professional 8.0, McAfee SpamKiller 5.0 & McAfee Worm Removal Plus.

10. Jangan anda melakukan chatting di MIRC sebelum tips diatas dipraktekkan, kalo tidak PC anda akan diserang oleh Hacker karna IP anda bisa diliat melalui MIRC.

Cara memperbaiki booting Windows XP

1. Memperbaiki Instalasi (Repair Install)

Jika Windows XP Anda rusak (corrupted) dimana Anda tidak mempunyai sistem operasi lain untuk booting,
Anda dapat melakukan perbaikan instalasi (Repair Install) yang bekerja sebagaimana setting (pengaturan)
yang awal.

Sekarang Anda bisa log in dengan account Anda yang sudah ada.

2. NTOSKRNL Rusak atau Hilang (Missing or Corrupt)

Jika Anda mendapati pesan error bahwa “NTOSKRNL not found” / NTOSKRNL tak ditemukan, lakukan:
- Masukkan CD Windows XP dan booting dari CD tersebut.
- Pada saat muncul opsi R=Repair yang pertama, tekan tombol R.
- Tekan angka sesuai dengan lokasi instalasi Windows yang ingin diperbaiki yang sesuai.
- Biasanya #1
- Pindahlah ke drive CD Drive Anda berada.
- Ketik: CD i386
- Ketik: expand ntkrnlmp.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe
- Jika Windows XP Anda terinstal di tempat lain, maka ubahlah sesuai dengan lokasinya.
- Keluarkan CD Anda dan ketikkan EXIT

3. HAL.DLL Rusak atau Hilang (Missing or Corrupt)

Jika Anda mendapatkan error berkenaan dengan rusak atau hilangnya file hal.dll, ada kemungkinan
file BOOT.INI mengalami salah konfigurasi (misconfigured).

- Masukkan CD Windows XP dan booting dari CD tersebut.
- Pada saat muncul opsi R=Repair yang pertama, tekan tombol R.
- Tekan angka sesuai dengan lokasi instalasi Windows yang ingin diperbaiki yang sesuai.

“Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE”

- Masukkan CD Windows XP dan booting dari CD tersebut.
- Pada saat muncul opsi R=Repair yang pertama, tekan tombol R.
- Tekan angka sesuai dengan lokasi instalasi Windows yang ingin diperbaiki yang sesuai.
- Biasanya #1
- Masukkan password administrator jika diperlukan.
- Ketik: cd \windows\system32\config
- Berikutnya tergantung di bagian mana letak terjadinya kerusakan:
- Ketik: ren software software.rusak ATAU ren system system.rusak
- Berikutnya lagi juga tergantung di bagian mana letak terjadinya kerusakan:

5. NTLDR atau NTDETECT.COM tak ditemukan (NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM Not Found)

Jika Anda mendapati error bahwa NTLDR tak ditemukan saat booting:

a. Untuk partisi tipe FAT
- Silakan Anda melakukan booting dari disket Win98 Anda dan salinlah file NTLDR atau NTDETECT.COM
dari direktori i386 ke drive induk (root) C:\

b. Untuk partisi tipe NTFS
- Masukkan CD Windows XP dan booting dari CD tersebut.
- Pada saat muncul opsi R=Repair yang pertama, tekan tombol R.
- Tekan angka sesuai dengan lokasi instalasi Windows yang ingin diperbaiki yang sesuai.
- Biasanya #1
- Masukkan password administrator jika diperlukan.

Mengenal tipe serangan Hacker

Menurut hasil konferensi hacker Last Hope, menyatakan, dengan menggunakan laptop, headset ponsel, kartu kredit, atau bahkan paspor, dapat membuat user menjadi target pencurian data dan criminal lainnya. Dalam ketakutan namun sesi yang menyenangkan, yang berjudul "How do I Pwn Thee? Let me Count the Ways" (pwn di sini berbicara mengenai kepunyaan atau control), seorang hacker yang memiliki alias “RenderMan” menjelaskan bagaimana user berada dalam resiko keamanan dan mereka tidak mengetahuinya.

Serangan hacker menurut sebagian besar orang mungkin telah mengetahui bahwa mereka harus berhati-hati menggunakan jaringan Wi-Fi, khususnya public hotspot yang tidak mengenkripsi data yang ditransmisikan dan access point jaringan dapat disalahgunakan oleh orang lain. Akibatnya user dapat kehilangan data-data, menerima halaman web yang menipu, dan informasi lainnya, yang menyebabkan computer mereka telah diambil alih.

Ketika penumpang pesawat telah mengabaikan peringatan pramugrari untuk men-disable Wi-Fi atau mereka yang tidak mengetahui bagaimana cara mematikannya, akan mudah terkena penyerangan pihak lain di pesawat. RenderMan menyarankan user agar men-disable Wi-Fi ketika tidak digunakan dan menggunakan VPN, juga software firewall. Headset Bluetooth user juga dapat beresiko terhadap keamanan karena celah keamanan dalam teknologi tersebut dan default PIN yang tidak berubah. Dengan mengeksploitasi kelemahan teknologi tertentu, seseorang dapat masuk dan mencuri data, lalu menyusup dalam conversation, atau bahkan memata-matai user dengan memasukkan bug ke dalamnya. RenderMan menyarankan user untuk mengubah password, men-disable Bluetooth pada telepon, mematikan headset bila tidak digunakan, dan membatasi akses ke data dan fitur ketika berkomunikasi dengan alat Bluetooth lainnya.

Banyak orang tidak menyadari bahwa paspor U.S yang baru mempunyai teknologi RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) dengan enkripsi yang lemah, yang membuat data pada chip mudah dibaca dengan reader device tertentu. Pengertian Bandwidth Controller

Bandwidth Controller adalah sebuah software untuk mengatur bandwidth computer data atau traffic baik internet maupun data network.Bandwidth Controller bisa dikatakan sebagai software pembatas bagi computer lain atau memberikan prioritas bagi computer lain agar bisa mengaccess data internet maupun data lokal

* Mengatur download dan upload computer lain untuk data trafik.
* Prioritas bagi computer atau beberapa computer untuk mengaccess data pada jaringan network maupun internet.
* Memblock atau memfilter packet baik keluar dan masuk pada sebuah computer atau group didalam LAN baik mengkontrol dari lapis network 3 dan 7.
* Pengaktifkan batas dan prioritas bagi computer lain termasuk pengaktifkan dengan waktu tertentu.

Bandwidth Controller bertujuan untuk mengatur bandwidth dari computer lain. Penempatan software Bandwidth Controller ditempatkan pada sebuah computer yang dijadikan jalur keluar misalnya mengaccess data internet. Sebagai contoh, bila sebuah warnet, kantor atau jaringan computer tetangga mengunakan sebuah computer yang dijadikan sebagai Gateway / computer sharing / computer server. Computer server tersebut berfungsi untuk mendistribusikan data keluar masuknya dari dan ke computer lainnya. Sehingga seluruh computer dapat mengaccess data bersama sama seperti sharing koneksi internet.

Mengunakan sebuah computer server, misalnya mengunakan OS Windows XP tidak bisa memberi batasan berapa banyak trafik yang diberikan untuk masing masing computer. Karena computer server beranggapan bahwa setiap computer memiliki hak hak yang sama untuk mengacces data, seperti koneksi internet. Computer server hanya dapat mengatur seperti memblock port misalnya semua user tidak diijinkan membuka website, atau tidak bisa mengirim email. Disini kelemahan dari sistem computer server , karena fungsinya sebagai pintu gerbang atau jalur keluar masuk saja sehingga tidak memiliki fungsi sebagai pembatas trafik data agar membagi bandwidth ke masing masing computer.

Bisa dibayangkan didalam sebuah jaringan LAN terdapat 10 computer yang terhubung ke computer server untuk mengaccess data internet. Bila 1 saja computer mengunakan program download manager atau program P2P, misalnya Bittorrent, Flashget atau Download Accelereator maka dipastikan kecepatan koneksi internet pada computer lain menjadi lambat. Hal tersebut terjadi karena kecepatan beberapa program seperti download manager mampu mengambil data trafik besar sehingga akan menganggu atau memperlambat koneksi computer lainnya.

Bandwidth Controller dapat melakukan pembatasan atau membagi kecepatan trafik didalam jaringan . Bahkan software ini dapat membatasi kecepatan maksimum bagi computer lain yang dianggap terlalu banyak mengunakan data trafik. Bandwidth Controller juga memiliki beberapa fitur sangat baik sehubungan dengan kebutuhan traffic didalam sebuah jaringan network.

Dibawah ini beberapa kemampuan dari Bandwidth Controller :

* Membatasi beberapa computer atau group dengan limit atau batas tertentu mengunakan trafik data ke server.
* Membatasi atau membagi kecepatan trafik data seperti pembagian maksimum atau minimum dari pemakaian bandwidth
* Penguncian dengan batas tertentu, misalnya seorang karyawan terlalu banyak access internet maka dapat dibatasi setelah kapasitas tertentu akan diturunkan kecepatannya.
* Pengaturan dalam waktu, misalnya setelah jam 9 pagi dimana pemakai internet didalam kantor mulai aktif, maka software dapat membatasi kecepatan maksimum untuk mendownload diseluruh computer.
* Memberikan prioritas dari sebuah protokol seperti memberikan prioritas access pemakai protokol VOIP.
* Dan fitur terbaik adalah dapat menampilkan daftar computer yang mana yang terlalu banyak mengunakan bandwidth, sehingga dapat seorang Admin dapat terus memantau kegiatan / aktifitas computer lain didalam jaringan LAN.
* Bahkan Bandwidth Controller menampilkan kemanakah sebuah computer sedang mengaccess data dengan menampilkan koneksi dari nomor IP server didalam daftar list bandwidth Controller.

Susunan protokol dari koneksi antar computer memiliki beberapa lapis atau disebut layer. Bandwidth Controller mampu membatasi pada 2 sistem layer protocol yaitu layer 3 dan layer 7. Untuk layer 3 yang berisikan protokol IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, IPSec AH, IPSec ESP dapat diberlakukan untuk dibatasi oleh Bandwidth Controller.

Layer lain yang dapat diatur adalah protokol layer 7 seperti nomor port HTTP, FTP, IMAP, Gnutella, MSN Messenger, Streaming Video, Shockwave Flash, HTTP download, MP3. Pemakai Bandwidth Controller dapat memberikan batas batas tertentu bagi computer lain untuk mengunakan trafik.

Lalu bagaimana bila seorang pemakai didalam jaringan cukup pintar untuk menganti atau berpindah pindah nomor IP computernya agar dapat lepas dari kontrol software Bandwidth Controller.

Pemakai computer didalam sebuah jaringan bisa saja menganti IP yang sifatnya dinamis. Tetapi Bandwidth Controller mampu memblock nomor fisik sebuah network yang disebut sebagai Mac address. Bandwidth Controller dapat mencatat nomor Mac address dari sebuah computer, dan tetap melakukan blocking atau membatasi trafik agar tidak terlalu berlebihan melakukan download atau upload. Sehingga seorang pemakai computer dapat terus dipantau oleh Bandwidth Controller walaupun sudah berganti IP, karena Mac address tidak bisa diganti dan tetap tercatat oleh software kecuali si pemakai computer menganti dengan NIC atau LAN card baru

Software Bandwidth Controller dipasang atau diinstall pada sebuah computer yang memiliki access data keluar jaringan. Misalnya computer sebagai server / Gateway atau router yang mengunakan 2 ehternet card dimana 1 card untuk koneksi internal LAN terhubung ke HUB network, dan sebuah lagi terhubung ke jaringan internet. Sehingga seluruh koneksi computer ke computer server tersebut dapat diatur oleh Bandwidth Controller. Karena seluruh jalan keluar masuk harus melalui server maka Bandwidth Controller dapat memantau computer lain seperti melihat kemana saja computer tersebut terhubung, berapa banyak koneksi yang dilakukan atau berapa besar bandwidth yang digunakan oleh masing masing computer.

Bandwidth Controller tidak memerlukan software tertentu pada computer client dan cukup dipasangkan pada computer server saja. Karena Bandwidth Controller mengatur dan menangkap semua packet data yang melewati ethernet card. Dengan cara demikian, maka seorang staff IT bisa saja mengurangi kecepatan internet dari dari satu buah computer tanpa campur tangan ke sipemiliknya. Cara ini akan bermanfaat bila didalam sebuah jaringan network terdapat seorang staf yang terlalu sibuk mendownload dan mengambil trafik data internet sehingga menganggu pekerja lain yang membutuhkan.

Bagaimana membuat jaringan dengan Wi-Fi

Anda dapat membuat jaringan rumah atau kantor kecil tanpa menggunakan access point atau hub/router. Seperti halnya jaringan peerto-peer pada jaringan yang menggunakan NIC. Tidak hanya itu, jaringan peer-to-peer dengan Wi-Fi dapat dilakukan dengan lebih dari dua komputer dan dengan kecepatan yang jauh lebih besar.

1. Aktifkan Wi-Fi Anda
Langkah pertama yang paling penting adalah mempersiapkan perangkat jaringan wireless Anda dan mengaktifkannya. Cara mengaktifkan fitur Wi-Fi pada setiap komputer cukup beragam. Ada yang harus menekan tombol khusus baru kemudian aktif. Ada juga yang cukup mengaktifkannya melalui layar Windows Anda. Untuk mengaktifkannya melalui layar monitor; buka Control Panel, Network Connection, pada icon Wireless Network Connection klik kanan dan pilih Enable. Setelah itu, klik kanan kembali dan pilih View Available Wireless Network. Jika pada layar ada sebuah koneksi wireless tersedia, Anda tinggal pilih kemudian tekan tombol Connect.

2. Buat Jaringan Wi-Fi Sendiri
Namun bila koneksi Wi-Fi belum tersedia, Anda memang harus membuatnya sendiri. Apalagi pada komputer pertama sekali yang akan digunakan untuk jaringan. Caranya cukup pergi ke Control Panel, pilih Network Connection. Kemudian pada halaman NetworkConnection pilih Wireless Network Connection. Klik kanan kemudian pilih Properties. Setelah itu, buka halaman Wireless Network. Pada halaman ini berikan tanda centang pada Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Kemudian tekan tombol Add di bagian Prefered Networks.

3. Namakan Koneksi
Langkah kedua adalah menamakan koneksi wireless yang akan Anda buat. Nama koneksi dapat terserah diberikan, pengetikan nama koneksi dilakukan dalam boks SSID. Jika Anda ingin memiliki password untuk jaringan ini, pada opsi The key is provided for me automatically hapus tanda centang. Kemudian pada drop down menu Network Authentication, pilih Open atau Shared untuk menggunakan network key WEP atau memilih WPA-None untuk memilih menggunakan network key WPA. WPA memang lebih baik, namun tidak semua perangkat mendukungnya. Kemudian masukkan kuncinya pada kolom Network key dan Confirm network key.

4. Berikan Password WEP
Bila Anda memilih untuk memberikan password atau key secara manual, maka pada layar selanjutnya Anda akan dipertanyakan password tersebut. Bila Anda menggunakan password WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) ada aturan penggunaannya, yaitu hanya diperbolehkan 5 atau 13 karakter untuk penulisan password yang hanya menggunakan 1 jenis karakter. Untuk dua jenis karakter (angka dan huruf) hanya diperbolehkan sebanyak 10 atau 26 karakter. Perlu diingat bahwa semakin panjang dan rumit password akan semakin baik.

5. Berikan Password WPA
Anda dapat juga memberikan password WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Pada penggunaan password WPA aturan yang harus ditaati adalah jumlah karakter yang dapat digunakan antara 8 sampai 63 untuk satu jenis karakter dan 64 karakter untuk lebih dari satu jenis karakter. Setelah selesai nanti, Anda dapat mencetak password ini untuk kemudian digunakan menambah komputer ke dalam jaringan nantinya. Dan perlu diingatkan bahwa penggunaan kunci WPA tidak selalu dapat diterapkan di setiap komputer. Ada beberapa perangkat jaringan nirkabel yang tidak dapat menerima kunci WPA.

6. Ad Hoc
Satu lagi yang perlu dilakukan adalah menjadikannya jaringan Ad Hoc. Jaringan Ad Hoc adalah jaringan yang hanya menghubungkan komputer ke komputer tanpa melalui sebuah hub atau router sebagai access point. Untuk jaringan nirkabel rumahan atau kantor kecil cukup menggunakan jaringan jenis ini. Oleh sebab itu, salah satu yang tidak boleh dilewatkan adalah memberikan tanda centang pada opsi This is a computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) network, wireless access points are not used. Opsi ini terletak di bagian paling bawah layar Association. Setelah selesai tekan OK.

7. Mulai Buat Jaringan Baru
Langkah selajutnya adalah membuat jaringan baru menggunakan koneksi yang sudah ada. Langkah pertama dalam membuat jaringan Anda cukup mengikuti wizard yang ada untuk membuat jaringan biasa. caranya masuk ke Control Panel. Kemudian pilih Network Setup Wizard. Ikuti petunjuk yang diberikan. Pada saat wizard mulai dijalankan, Anda akan diminta untuk memeriksa kembali perangkat jaringan yang akan digunakan. Apakah sudah lengkap atau belum. Jika sudah lengkap Anda dapat melanjutkan. Jika belum pastikan terlebih dahulu semua perangkat sudah terpasang dan terinstal dengan baik.

Banyak metode digunakan untuk konfigurasi jaringan Ad-Hoc, berikut adalah salah satu contoh sederhana dan tahapan dalam mengkonfigurasi jaringan Ad-Hoc wireless LAN.

1. Dibutuhkan “wireless network card” pada masing-masing komputer.
2. Masuk ke “network card properties” dan set SSID dengan nama tertentu (unique). Pastikan bahwa anda mengkonfigure SSID dengan nama yang sama untuk masing-masing komputer. Jika tidak sama, jaringan tidak akan terhubung.
3. Masuk ke “network card properties” dan set “channel” untuk jaringan wireless yang akan digunakan. Pastikan anda mengkonfigurasi channel dengan angka yang sama untuk masing-masing komputer. Jika tidak, jaringan tidak akan terhubung.
4. Set IP LAN static pada kedua komputer. Patikan anda mengkonfigurasi IP komputer tersebut dalam satu subnet dan range yang sama. Jika anda set IP pada satu komputer 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0, pastikan komputer lainnya di set juga pada range (192.168.1.2-254).
5. Set “network card” pada mode “ad-hoc”, bukan “infrastructure”.

Dengan konfigurasi diatas, seharusnya jaringan ad-hoc anda sudah bisa berjalan normal.

Misal, salah satu PC anda terhubung ke internet, dan PC satu lagi ingin ikut/numpang dalam mengakses internet, anda bisa mengaktifkan fungsi Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) pada OS Windows, berikut tahapannya:

1. Aktifkan “ICS” pada PC yang memiliki koneksi internet. Catat alamat IP PC ini, yang akan menjadi komputer “host”.
2. Set “default gateway” “network card” pada PC yang kedua ke alamat IP komputer “host” (refer ke No.1).
3. Set “DNS server” untuk PC yang kedua dengan alamat IP DNS dari ISP anda.

Perlu diingat bahwa dengan “Internet Connection Sharing” (ICS) via ad-hoc wireless LAN, komputer “host” harus selalu “ON”, jika anda ingin PC kedua bisa mengakses internet.

Tahapan Test Koneksi untuk PC Windows :

1. Klik Start.
2. Klik Run.
3. Ketik “cmd”.
4. Ketik “ping x.x.x.x”, dimana x.x.x.x adalah alamat IP dari salah satu PC.
5. Jika “ping is successful”, maka jaringan anda sudah UP dan anda memiliki “full connectivity”

Universal Plug and Play adalah sebuah system pnp yang dapat digunakan secara universal atau meluas dimana di mana dan untuk apa saja. Memang benar, UPnP adalah sebuah teknologi yang akan memungkinkan anda untuk memasang perangkat-perangkat keperluan anda dengan ‘sangat’ mudah dan dapat menyatukannya menjadi sebuah jaringan perangkat yang tentunya akan lebih memudahkan hidupa anda. Teknologi ini pertama kali dipromosikan oleh vendor operating system terbesar di dunia, yaitu Microsoft yang bekerja sama dengan UPnP forum.

Beda antara uPnP dengan PnP yang lama

Disinilah bedanya, teknologi UPnP dan PnP memang sama-sama dapat memudahkan anda dalam menggunakan perangkat computer, namun sebenarnya keduanya sangat berbeda dari segi teknologi dan penggunaannya ke depan. Universal PnP dapat dikatakan sebagai perpanjangan tangan dari APnP karena teknologi ini memiliki scope dan jangkauan yang lebih luas dalam bekerja, dibandingkan dengan PnP lama.

Jika teknologi PnP hanya dapat melayani dalam penambahan perangkat baru di internal PC, UPnP dapat melayani anda lebih dari itu. Load balancing adalah sebuah konsep yang gunanya untuk menyeimbangkan beban atau muatan pada infrastruktur TI sebuah perusahaan. Agar seluruh departemen dapat dimanfaatkan secara maksimal dan optimal. Beberapa perusahaan TI yang telah meluncurkan solusi total dari konsep load balancing : HP dengan utility computing, IBM dengan Utility On Demand, Sun dengan Sun and I, Oracle dengan 10g.

10g dari Oracle

Dinamakan juga grid computing. Pada dasarnya, grid disini, dimaksudkan dengan clusters dari sebuah computer atau server yang saling berhubungan satu sama lain, untuk bekerja sama saling berbagi resources.

10g bekerja pada servers database dan aplikasi. Dengan adanya 10g, maka system dapat saling berbagi ruang maupun kemampuan sehingga system yang satu dengan yang lainnya dapat bekerja lebih optimal dan efisien. Untuk lebih jelasnya, perhatikan aplikasi 10g berikut:

Sebuah bank terdapat empat buah server dengan keperluan yang berbeda satu sama lain, seperti server SCM, ERP, CRM dan e-mail. Tentu saja ke-empat-empatnya harus dibangun dengan sistem yang lengkap, baik dari segi hardware maupun keamanannya. Padahal kerja ke-empat-empatnya tidak selalu sama dari hari ke hari. Contoh saja e-mail server, pada hari libur server akan tidak bekerja 100%, mengingat pada akhir pecan tidak terlalu banyak e-mail yang bersliweran. Namun pada akhir pekan banyak transaksi melalui ATM yang berlangsung. Sehingga server yang digunakan untuk transaksi tersebut dapat memanfaatkan resources yang tersedia melimpah pada e-mail server. Lain halnya jika anda tidak menggunakan 10g atau konsep load balancing.Server untuk transaksi tetap bekerja dengan supersibuk, sementara e-mail server menganggur sia-sia. Mengapa demikian? Pada 10-g, semua server akan dikumpulkan menjadi satu kesatuan secara virtual sehingga satu sama lain dapat saling memanfaatkan resources.

Sistem grid computing sendiri memiliki beberapa komponen penting selain 10-g nya, yaitu beberapa komponen seperti hardware dalam infrastruktur yang kuat dapat diandalkan. Seperti Internet, blader server, perangkat jaringan, SAN, storage Array (RAID), serta processor 32-bit – 64 bit.

Blade server

Blade server menjadi salah satu komponen penting dari 10g, karena server ini dapat bersifat plug and play yang memudahkan dalam peng-upgrade-an system. Satu rack blade server dapat menampung sebanyak 280 server sekaligus. Dalam setiap satu blade server biasanya terdapat satu atau dua processor dengan memory. Pada pengoperasiannya blade server tidak memelukan energi yang besar dan tidak mengeluarkan panas yang berlebihan, sehingga cukup efisien untuk digunakan.

Blade server juga biasa disebut high density server yang bekerja pada system cluster dan biasanya digunakan untuk satu task saja. Misalnya, file sharing saja atau streaming audio serta video dan sebagainya. Dan karena alasa cluster ini, maka blade server cocok untuk digunakan dalam konsep load blancing. Awalnya, IBM yang memperkenalkan server jenis ini, namun kini sudah banyak perusahaan TI yang telah memproduksinya seperti HP dan SUN Microsystems.

SAN

SAN (Storage Area Network) adalah jaringan yang khusus menangani dan menghubungi berbagai macam perangkat storage. SAN memiliki hubungan lansung ke server dan memungkinkan komuunikasi data antar – server.

Oleh karena itu, storage area network yang baik juga merupakan dukungan penting bagi 10g. Sebab biar bagaimanapun, untuk dapat mengoptimalkan akses data memang dibutuhkan jaringan yang kuat dari data itu sendiri.

RAID

RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) adalah sebuah system yang memungkinkan menyimpan data yang sama pada saat yang bersamaan di tempat yang berbeda. Namun, anda tidak akan mengetahui HDD mana yang berperan sebagai HDD utama dan mana yang bukan.

Untuk perusahaan yang membutuhkan waktu uptime yang tinggi, misalnya 100%, maka teknologi RAID menjadi pilihan wajib. Sehingga bila terjadi kerusakan pada satu bagian data/storage system akan tetap mampu berjalan sebagaimana mestinya.

Processor 32-64 bit

Mengapa harus processor 32-64Bit yang harus digunakan? Sebab processor ini memliki performa yang jauh lebih baik dibandingkan bit yang dibawahnya. Contoh saja prosesor 64 bit, ia dapat bekerja dua kali lebih cepat dari pada processor 32 bit pada clock cycle yang sama. Disamping itu, processor 64 bit dapat secara otomatis mendeteksi atau mengenali apakah aplikasi atau operating system yang digunakan berjalan pada system 16 bit, 32 bit, atau 64 bit. Contoh produknya adalah itanium dari Intel.

Keamanan 10g

Bila system terdiri dari server yang berdiri satu per satu, maka system keamanannya juga akan berdiri satu-per satu. Misalnya untuk masuk masuk ke dalam server CRM, seorang admin harus memiliki satu login name dan password yang berbeda dengan yang digunakan oleh seorang admin untuk mengakses server ERP.

Sedangkan dengan 10g tidak perlu. Karena 10g telah menggunakan LDAP (Lightweight Directory Acces Protocol) untuk system keamanan-nya, sehingga hanya dibutuhkan satu login name dan password saja untuk masuk dalam jaringan. Hanya saja setiap user akan memiliki hak yang berbeda-beda, misalnya, admin ERP hanya dapat melakukan administrasi untuk ERP saja dan seterusnya. Namun, bisa juga satu orang admin dapat melakukan pengaturan untuk kedua server atau seluruh server sekaligus. Mengingat dengan 10g semua server akan dikumpulkan menjadi satu.

Pengertian unicast, multicast dan broadcast

Unicast merupakan transmisi jaringan one to one. Ketika digunakan, satu system tunggal hanya mencoba berkomunikasi dengan satu system lainnya. Pada jaringan Ethernet, penggunaan unicast dapat diketahui dengan melihat mac address asal dan tujuan yang merupakan alamat host yang unik. Pada jaringan yang menggunakan IP, alamat IP asal dan tujuan merupakan alamat yang unik.

Ketika system berhubungan dengan frame jaringan, ia akan selalu memeriksa MAC address miliknya untuk melihat apakah frame tersebut ditujukan untuk dirinya, Jika MAC Address-nya cocok dengan system tujuan, ia akan memprosesnya. Jika tidak, frame tersebut akan diabaikan. Ingat, ketika dihubungkan ke hub, semua system melihat semua frame yang melalui jaringan, karena merka semua bagian dari collision domain yang sama.

Multicast

Multicast merupakan transmisi yang dimaksudkan untuk banyak tujuan, tetapi tidak harus semua host. Oleh karena itu, multicast dikenal sebagai metode tranmisi one to many (satu kebanyak). Multicast digunakan dalam kasus-kasus tertentu, misalnya ketika sekelompok computer perlu menerima transmisi tertentu.

Salah satu contohnya adalah streaming audio atau video. Misalkan banyak computer ingin menerima transmisi video pada waktu yang bersamaan. Jika data tersebut dikirimkan ke setiap computer secara individu, maka diperlukan beberapa aliran data. Jika data tersebut dikirimkan sebagai broadcast, maka tidak perlu lagi proses untuk semua system. Dengan multicast data tersebut hanya dikirim sekali, tetapi diterima oleh banyak system.

Protokol-protokol tertentu menggunakan range alamat khusus untuk multicast. Sebagai contoh, alamat ip dalam kelas D telah direservasi untuk keperluan multicast. Jika semua host perlu menerima data video, mereka akan menggunakan alamat ip multicast yang sama. Ketika mereka menerima paket yang ditujukan ke alamat tersebut, mereka akan memprosesnya. Ingatlah bahwa system masih tetapi memiliki alamt ip mereka sendiri-mereka juga mendengarkan alamat multicast mereka.

Broadcast

Jenis transmisi jaringan yang terakhir adalah broadcast, yang juga dikenal sebagai metode transmisi one to all ( satu kesemua). Walaupun broadcast cenderung membuang resource, beberapa protocol seperti ARP, bergantung kepadanya. Dengan demikian, terjadinya beberapa traffic broadcast tidak dapat dihindari. Pada jaringan Ethernet, broadcast dikirim ke alamat tujuan broadcast dikirim ke alamat tujuan khusus, yaitu, FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF. How to prevent hostname lookups using openssh sshd

When you connect to an OpenSSH sshd server, it is configured by default to do a hostname lookup on your IP address. If there are any issues with the DNS configuration on the host machine, or with the DNS server it is using, this can lead to a delay when logging in using ssh for around 30 seconds. It is very easy to switch this host name lookup function off in the sshd_config file.

On most Linux distributions, the sshd_config file will be at /etc/ssh/sshd_config, so it's simply a matter of editing it with your favourite editor as root or using "sudo" and adding the following:

UseDNS no

This is correct for recent versions of sshd but older versions might use the following configuration option instead (I found this on a couple of sites while doing some additional research for this article):

VerifyReverseMapping yes

You can always check the sshd_config options by having a look in the manual by issuing the command man sshd_config.

After making the above change to the configuration file, it's simply a matter of reloading the SSH daemon. On RedHat and CentOS you would do service sshd reload; /etc/init.d/sshd reload should work on most Linux distributions.

Please note that making this change may introduce a security risk as full checking is no longer done on the hostname and IP address. Note this from the manpage:

 UseDNS - Specifies whether sshd should look up the remote host name and check that the resolved host name for the remote IP address maps back to the very same IP address. The default is "yes".

How to resolve error 'SoapClient' not found on PHP

I've often found that something gets left out or forgotten when moving a website from an old server to a new install. I've just finished migrating one of my customer's sites to a new CentOS 5.0 install with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.1.6, and there's one single PHP script in the site which uses the SoapClient class.

Naturally I'd forgotten to test this particular function until after the migration was complete, and was wondering why the script had failed. A quick look in the Apache error log file revealed the following error message:

 [Wed Sep 25 00:50:12 2007] [error] [client 10.1.1.2] PHP Fatal error:  Class 'SoapClient' not found in /path/to/filename.php on line 469

Aha! I'd forgotten to install the SOAP extension when I'd installed PHP on this particular CentOS machine. Not being to sure what the package would be called, I did this:

yum search soap | grep php

which returned the following:

As you can see, there were also some updates to some of the PHP packages I had already installed, so these were installed at the same time. After the install was complete, it was just a matter of restarting Apache and the SoapClient class could now be used by my PHP script.

Using YUM to install software can be done on CentOS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora and some other Linux distributions. Others may use different package managers and call the packages different names, so the method of installing PHP SOAP will be different from Linux distribution to Linux distribution.

HTTP_REFERER variable with PHP

When a web browser moves from one website to another and between pages of a website, it can optionally pass the URL it came from. This is called the HTTP_REFERER, and this post looks at how to use this variable with PHP.

Overview of http referers

Most web browsers pass the HTTP_REFERER variable by default, but in many this behaviour can be changed to not show it or to pass something else instead. There is also 3rd party anti-spyware etc software that can be installed on a user's computer which also prevents the referrer information from being passed to the web server. Because it can also be changed to something else, the HTTP_REFERER cannot be trusted, but it is still useful for working out where people have come from.

Appearance in log files

The following examples are from an Apache web server's log files.

The first example shows what a log entry looks like from someone coming from this website's homepage to this particular post. I have made the HTTP REFERER part of the log line bold (you'll need to scroll to the right to see it).

The second example shows the same thing, but because it is represented by a - only it tells us the user has either gone directly to that page by typing the address in or using a bookmark etc, or is masking the HTTP REFERER with a browser option or a 3rd party tool.

Using HTTP_REFERER in PHP

The HTTP REFERER in PHP is stored in the $_SERVER super global, and can be referenced from anywhere in your PHP code like in the following example, which would simply write it out to the browser:

echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']

If the HTTP_REFERER has been set then it will be displayed. If it is not then you won't see anything. If it's not set and you have error reporting set to show notices, you'll see an error like this instead:

Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in /path/to/filename.php on line 3

To prevent this error when notices are on (I always develop with notices on), you can do this:

    echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'];
}

Another way is like this:

echo isset($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']) ? $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] : '';

The use of the ? operator will return the first value after the ? if the condition is true and the second value if the condition is false. It can be useful to use when you are wanting to assign the value of the HTTP_REFERER to a variable. e.g.:

$referer = isset($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']) ? $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] : '';

Conclusion

It can be useful to use the HTTP_REFERER variable for logging etc purposes using the $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] superglobal variable. However it is important to know it's not always set so if you program with notices on then you'll need to allow for this in your code. The above examples show one way of doing this.

Howto Restart Apache

If you have made changes to the Apache configuration file httpd.conf or one of the other included configuration files such as the vhosts.d files, you need to reload the Apache service for the changes to take effect. From the command line you do this with the apachectl command. The exact location of this command varies on the Unix or Linux variant you are using (eg Fedora, OSX, FreeBSD, Slackware, Mandrake, SUSE) and the compile time settings, but typically it is accesible at /usr/sbin/apachectl . An example of restarting Apache gracefully is shown below:

/usr/sbin/apachectl graceful

Note that you will either need to be running as root or use the "sudo" command in order to run this command.

If Apache is not already running it will be started. If it is already running then it will reload with the new changes but will not abort active connections, meaning that anyone who is in the middle of downloading something will continue to be able to download it.

Before restarting the Apache service a check will be done on the configuration files to ensure they are valid. If there is an error in them the error will be displayed and the Apache service will continue running using the old settings. You need to correct your settings before attempting to restart again.

You can also just check the settings without restarting Apache like so:

/usr/sbin/apachectl configtest

This will check the httpd.conf file and report whether the syntax of the file is valid or not. A list of errors will be displayed including the line numbers if there are any. This makes it easy to isolate any problems.

The following are all the available options that can be passed to the apachectl command. This text is from the apachectl man page.

apachectl start: Start the Apache daemon. Gives an error if it is already running.

apachectl stop: Stops the Apache daemon.

apachectl restart: Restarts the Apache daemon by sending it a SIGHUP. If the daemon is not running, it is started. This command automatically checks the configuration files via configtest before initiating the restart to make sure Apache doesn't die.

fullstatus: Displays a full status report from mod_status. For this to work, you need to have mod_status enabled on your server and a text-based browser such as lynx available on your system. The URL used to access the status report can be set by editing the STATUSURL variable in the script.

apachectl status: Displays a brief status report. Similar to the fullstatus option, except that the list of requests currently being served is omitted.

apachectl graceful: Gracefully restarts the Apache daemon by sending it a SIGUSR1. If the daemon is not running, it is started. This differs from a normal restart in that currently open connections are not aborted. A side effect is that old log files will not be closed immediately. This means that if used in a log rotation script, a substantial delay may be necessary to ensure that the old log files are closed before processing them. This command automatically checks the configuration files via configtest before initiating the restart to make sure Apache doesn't die.

apachectl configtest: Run a configuration file syntax test. It parses the configuration files and either reports Syntax Ok or detailed information about the particular syntax error.

apachectl help: Displays a short help message.

Update March 19th 2007

I wrote this article originally for Apache 1.3 and when I was using Gentoo Linux and OSX to serve pages with Apache. On my current openSUSE machines which run Apache 2.2 there is no longer an apachectl program. Instead of the above command you can run the following very similar command and options instead:

/etc/init.d/apache2 start|stop|reload|restart|configtest

Running /etc/init.d/apache2 on its own outputs a help message to detail the various options as listed below:

start - start httpd

startssl - start httpd with -DSSL

stop - stop httpd (sendign SIGTERM to parent)

try-restart - stop httpd and if this succeeds (i.e. if it was running before), start it again.

status - check whether httpd is running

restart - stop httpd if running; start httpd

reload|graceful - do a graceful restart by sending a SIGUSR1 or start if not running

configtest - do a configuration syntax test

extreme-configtest - try to run httpd as nobody (detects more errors by actually loading the configuration, but cannot read SSL certificates)

probe - probe for the necessity of a reload, give out the argument which is required for a reload. (by comparing conf files with pidfile timestamp)

full-server-status - dump a full status screen; requires lynx or w3m and mod_status enabled

server-status - dump a short status screen; requires lynx or w3m and mod_status enabled

help - this screen

Swatch

Swatch is a brand name for a line of wrist watches from the Swatch Group, a Swiss conglomerate with vertical control of the production of Swiss watches and related products. In 1982, Swatch was conceived and it was introduced to the market in Switzerland in March 1983.

Origin

Founded by Jeremi Dickson, Swatch was originally intended to re-capture entry level market share lost by Swiss manufacturers during the aggressive growth of Japanese companies such as Seiko in the 1960s and 1970s, and to re-popularize analog watches at a time when digital watches had achieved wide popularity. The launch of the new Swatch brand in 1983 was marked by bold new styling and design. The quartz watch was redesigned for manufacturing efficiency and fewer parts. This combination of marketing and manufacturing expertise restored Switzerland as a major player in the world wristwatch market. Synthetic materials were used for the watch cases as well as a new ultra-sonic welding process and the assembly technology. The number of components was reduced from 91 or more to 51, with no loss of accuracy.

A concept

in light of the economic state of the Swiss watch industry at the time of the introduction of the Swatch, its directors understood that it was not enough to offer a good watch. The watches needed to be attractive, cheeky and good fun, daring in design and aggressively priced, with high quality and innovative flair. The Swatch watches were high-tech and came in a variety of fashion and art designs.

The first collection

The first collection of twelve Swatch models was introduced on March 1, 1983 in Zürich, Switzerland. Initially the price ranged from CHF 39.90 to CHF 49.90 but was standardized to CHF 50.00 in autumn of the same year. Sales targets were set to one million timepieces for 1983 and 2.5 million the year after. With an aggressive marketing campaign and a very reasonable price for a Swiss-made watch, it gained instant popularity in its home market. Compared to conventional watches, a Swatch was 80% cheaper to produce by fully automating assembly and reducing the number of parts from the usual 91 or more to only 51 components.

Product lines

There are five families under the swatch brand. The five families are

Swatch Originals

The Originals are plastic cased watches. They are available in various sizes, shapes and designs. The originals have sub-families as well.

Swatch Irony

The Irony family contains all the metal cased watches produced by swatch. They too come in different sizes and shapes.

Swatch Skin

The skin family contains two sub families; which are Original Skin and Skin Chronograph. The original skin was introduced on October 6, 1997 as a thinner version of the original swatch watch. It is ultra thin, standing at 3.9 mm thin hence the name Swatch Skin. The swatch skin later went on to enter the Guinness world book of records as the world’s thinnest plastic watch. The Swatch Chronograph is just the swatch skin with a chronograph function. It has two additional buttons on the side of the watch.

Swatch Beat

The beat family launched in 1998 and incorporated beat watches across the three existing family but adding twists. Swatch Beat is the digital line and integrate Internet Time.

Swatch Bijoux

The bijoux line is the jewelry line that swatch released in the new millennium. A company that is known for innovations and fashion it went the next step. It partnered with Swarovski to encrust their bijoux line and watches.

Juniper Networks

Hardware Overview

All models of Juniper routers are comprised of two major componants: A Routing Engine and a Packet Forwarding Engine. The Routing Engine is a single blade or unit that plugs into the chassis. It performs routing calculations and system management functions (like running the user interface). The Packet Forwarding Engine is made up of several units including physical interface cards (PICs), flexible pic concentrators (FPCs), the controller card (SCB in an M40, and SSB in an M20), the backplane, and the craft (or chassis) inteface.

To replace a routing engine or a controller card, the router should be halted and powered off. PICs and FPCs can be added or replaced without shutting the whole router down. If an FPC needs to be removed from the chassis (to add or swap PICs, or to replace the FPC), it should first be taken offline. You can take an FPC offline with the “offline” button on the craft interface, or with the appropriate CLI command. IP Engineering should be informed and/or consulted anytime hardware needs to be added or replaced.

Software Overview

Currently Juniper software is the same on all official hardware platforms. It is essentially a unix operating system with a kernal and several daemons performing various functions. “show version” will show you the software version of the kernel and the daemons. IP Engineering takes care of all Juniper software issues.

CLI Navigation

The CLI operates in two modes: command mode and configuration mode. When you log into a juniper remotely you will be placed into command mode. In command mode your prompt will end with a “>”. To enter configuration mode, type “configure”. In configuration mode your promp ends with a “#”. In configuration mode, you can issue non-configuration commands by typing “run” followed by the command. Type “exit” to return to command mode.

Command completion and help are available in both CLI modes. Hitting the tab or spacebar will complete any command you may be typing, or give an error if no valid completion is available. Typing a “?” at any point will give you all available completions or commands. More complete help is available using the “help” command. This gives access to an in-line manual. “help reference” provides configuration assistance and “help topic” gives more generic help for higher level topics.

Configuration

Most Juniper configuration should be done using the config tools. Unlike Cisco configurations, Juniper configurations can be made active directly from the config server. This almost entirely eliminates the need to configure the router using the CLI. However, it is still useful to be able to navigate the CLI’s configuration mode as it allows you to view the config is small sections and allows you to make temporary changes (like putting loops on interfaces for troubleshooting purposes).

The configuration is object oriented — to non-coders, this means that it’s heirarchical and has lots of curly braces. The major sections are as follows:

system contains user authentication information, services, syslog, ntp, and other system wide settings

interfaces contains physical and logical interface configurations. Note: “family inet”, which contains the ip address, is under the logical “unit” hierarchy

routing-options contains static routes and AS and confederation information

protools contains routing protocol configuration for bgp, ospf, isis, etc

policy contains routing policy, dampening policy, community membership, and as-path definitions

To look at individual sections of the config, use “show context“. Here are some examples:

You can use as much or as little context as you need. If Just want to verify the address for the above interfaces, do this:

The line above the prompt tells you your location within the config heirarchy. To change your context, use the “edit” command:

“up” will take you up one level of the heirarchy, and “top” will take you back to the top of the heirarchy.

If you ever need to make a temporary change to the configuration (something that isn’t meant to last more than an hour or so), you can do this via the CLI configuration mode. For all other changes you should use the tools.

To change the configuration use the “set” and “delete” commands. When you change the configuration, you are actually changing a “candidate” config, not the activce config. In order to make the candidate config active you need to run “commit”. Here’s an example of setting a loopback on a sonet interface:

If you make a mistake, you can either load the proper configuration from the config server and commit it, or you can use the “rollback” command to recover the previous config (prior to the last commit) and commit it. Both these methods also work to undo temporary changes.

If you know the name of a process to kill, for example notepad.exe, use the following command from a command prompt to end it:

taskkill /IM notepad.exe

This will cause the program to terminate gracefully, asking for confirmation if there are unsaved changes. To forcefully kill the same process, add the /F option to the command line. Be careful with the /F option as it will terminate all matching processes without confirmation.

To kill a single instance of a process, specify its process id (PID). For example, if the desired process has a PID of 827, use the following command to kill it:

taskkill /PID 827

Using filters, a variety of different patterns can be used to specify the processes to kill. For example, the following filter syntax will forcefully kill all processes owned by the user Quinn:

If you’d rather not let others know what you’ve been searching for lately, then take steps to hide your internet actions. Here’s how you can delete your browser’s history on your PC.

Step 1:

Click on ‘Start’. Click the ‘start’ button located in the bottom corner of your screen. (If your toolbar is hidden, you may need to make your toolbar reappear so that the start button will reappear.)

Step 2:

Find the ‘Settings’ menu. Once you click on ‘start’, a large menu will pop up. On the right side of this menu there should be link to the settings menu. Click on this. (If you’re using Window’s Vista, you can skip this step.)

Step 3:

Choose ‘Control Panel’. Once you’re in the settings menu, another menu will pop-up. From this list, select ‘control panel’.

Step 4:

Go to ‘Internet Options’. From the control panel, click on ‘internet options’. (You may need to double-click, depending on what your preferences are set at. Either way, click until a new screen pops up, either once or twice.)

Step 5:

Select the ‘General’ tab. Once you are in the internet options menu, you are in the right spot to delete your browser’s history. Look for the general tab and make sure it is the one you are looking at. (You can click on the word ‘general’ to make sure that the general tab is on top.)

Step 6:

Find the ‘History’ box. Under the general tab, you will find the settings to change or delete your browser’s history. In the history box, click on ‘clear history’. A little ‘x’ or checkmark should appear if you have properly selected the ‘clear history’ box. If you’re using Window’s Vista, just click on the ‘delete’ button. Understand that by clearing your browser’s history, you will be deleting all of your recent searches, all of the history lists logged on your computer, and all of the forms you have filled out and saved on your PC. (For example, if you do online banking or regularly sign into a site where your client name or number automatically appears every time you go to that site, this information will be deleted.) You will be required to re-enter any information that was previously saved on a website, so make sure that you write down any usernames or passwords that you might forget before you delete your browser’s history.

Step 7:

Click ‘OK’. If you’re ready to delete your browser’s history, all that’s left to be done is to click ‘ok’ at the bottom of the general tab. Your browser’s history will be deleted immediately, and you can rest assured that no one else who uses the computer will be able to track your internet activity. It’s a great habit to get into when using a public computer.

An ISP (Internet service provider) is a company that provides individuals and other companies access to the Internet and other related services such as Web site building and virtual hosting. An ISP has the equipment and the telecommunication line access required to have a point-of-presence on the Internet for the geographic area served. The larger ISPs have their own high-speed leased lines so that they are less dependent on the telecommunication providers and can provide better service to their customers. Among the largest national and regional ISPs are AT&T WorldNet, IBM Global Network, MCI, Netcom, UUNet, and PSINet.

ISPs also include regional providers such as New England’s NEARNet and the San Francisco Bay area BARNet. They also include thousands of local providers. In addition, Internet users can also get access through online service providers (OSP) such as America Online and Compuserve.

The larger ISPs interconnect with each other through MAE (ISP switching centers run by MCI WorldCom) or similar centers. The arrangements they make to exchange traffic are known as peering agreements. There are several very comprehensive lists of ISPs world-wide available on the Web.

An ISP is also sometimes referred to as an IAP (Internet access provider). ISP is sometimes used as an abbreviation for independent service provider to distinguish a service provider that is an independent, separate company from a telephone company.

Broadband in telecommunications refers to a signaling method that includes or handles a relatively wide range of frequencies, which may be divided into channels or frequency bins. Broadband is always a relative term, understood according to its context. The wider the bandwidth, the greater the information-carrying capacity. In radio, for example, a very narrow-band signal will carry Morse code; a broader band will carry speech; a still broader band is required to carry music without losing the high audio frequencies required for realistic sound reproduction. A television antenna described as “normal” may be capable of receiving a certain range of channels; one described as “broadband” will receive more channels. In data communications an analogue modem will transmit a bandwidth of 56 kilobits per seconds (kbit/s) over a telephone line; over the same telephone line a bandwidth of several megabits per second can be handled by ADSL, which is described as broadband (relative to a modem over a telephone line, although much less than can be achieved over a fibre optic circuit).

In data communications

Broadband in data can refer to broadband networks or broadband Internet and may have the same meaning as above, so that data transmission over a fiber optic cable would be referred to as broadband as compared to a telephone modem operating at 56,000 bits per second.

However, broadband in data communications is frequently used in a more technical sense to refer to data transmission where multiple pieces of data are sent simultaneously to increase the effective rate of transmission, regardless of data signaling rate. In network engineering this term is used for methods where two or more signals share a medium.

In DSL

The various forms of digital subscriber line (DSL) services are broadband in the sense that digital information is sent over a high-bandwidth channel above the baseband voice channel on a single pair of wires.

In Ethernet

A baseband transmission sends one type of signal using a medium’s full bandwidth, as in 100BASE-T Ethernet. Ethernet, however, is the common interface to broadband modems such as DSL data links, and has a high data rate itself, so is sometimes referred to as broadband. Ethernet provided over cable modem is a common alternative to DSL.

In power-line communication

Power lines have also been used for various types of data communication. Although some systems for remote control are based on narrowband signaling, modern high-speed systems use broadband signaling to achieve very high data rates. One example is the ITU-T G.hn standard, which provides a way to create a high-speed (up to 1 Gigabit/s) Local area network using existing home wiring (including power lines, but also phone lines and coaxial cables).

Download and Install FileZilla

First, go to the FileZilla download page and obtain the appropriate version for your system. For Windows, get the Setup version; at the time I wrote this, it’s the one labelled “(recommended)” under the Windows section.

Once you have downloaded the program, you will have to install it. Go to your desktop and doubleclick the file that you have just downloaded. Follow the instructions to install it to your hard disk.

Preliminary Steps

Before you can upload any file to your site, you will also need some information from your web host. In particular, you will need to find out the following:

The name of the FTP server for your website. For example, your host may tell you that your FTP hostname is “ftp.example.com”.
Your user id or login username for your FTP account.
Your password for your FTP account.
The directory where you need to place your files so that they can be seen by a web browser visiting your site. For example, your host may tell you to place the files in a subdirectory called “www” or “public_html” or even the default directory that you see when you log into your FTP site.

If your web host tells you that you do not have FTP access, you cannot use this tutorial. You will have to use whatever method the web host has designated for you to upload your files.

Steps to Uploading or Publishing a File to Your Web Server

For the purpose of this tutorial, I will assume that you wish to upload a file called “feedback.php”. Everytime you see “feedback.php” mentioned, you can substitute that name with the name of the file you actually wish to upload. FileZilla does not restrict you to uploading only files of that name. You can upload images (eg, GIF, JPG, PNG, etc), HTML files, video clips, music files (eg MP3 files, WAV files, MIDI files), Perl scripts, PHP scripts, and so on. For the curious: I use “feedback.php” as the example file because this guide was originally written to help those who use my free Feedback Form Wizard to upload the generated form to their website.

Click the “File” menu followed by the “Site Manager” item on that menu. A dialog box will appear.
Click the “New Site” button on that dialog box. This creates a new item under “My FTP Sites” called “New FTP site”. Rename “New FTP site” to the name of your site if you wish. By default, the keyboard cursor would have been placed in the name portion of “New FTP site” allowing you to change the name immediately. If you have lost the cursor because you accidentally clicked somewhere else in the dialog box, you can get it back by simply clicking once on the name. Note that this name can be anything you wish - it is not required for accessing your site. However, you will probably make your life easier if you change the name to that of your site rather than the cryptic “New FTP site”.
Under the tab “General”, enter the name of your FTP server in the “Host” input box. For example, if your web host told you that your FTP hostname is “ftp.example.com”, enter “ftp.example.com” into the space provided.
Leave the “Port” and the “Servertype” entry boxes alone. Use your mouse and select “Normal” from the drop down list box for “Logontype”. This will enable the “User” and “Password” boxes for the next step.
Enter your user id or your login name (or whatever your web host calls it) into the “User” input box. Likewise, enter your password into the “Password” input box. Note that this information is automatically saved onto your computer and will be re-used the next time you run FileZilla, so you do not have to re-enter them again. (It also means that you should not use FileZilla in this way on computers that others may have access to, such as those found in an Internet cafe or a public library.)
Click the “Connect” button. FileZilla will proceed to log you into your server. If it is successful, you will see a directory listing of your website’s account in the right hand side of the FileZilla window. The left hand side of the FileZilla window shows the directories and files on your own computer.
If your web host told you to only upload in a specific subdirectory on the web server, such as in the “www” or “public_html” directory, change to that directory by doubleclicking its name in the folder portion of the right window pane (the “Remote Site” window pane). FileZilla will open that folder and show you its contents in the files portion of the Remote Site window pane.
Next, locate the file that you wish to upload in the left window pane (the “Local Site” pane). Both window panes behave mostly like a Windows Explorer windows, so navigating them should not be unduly hard. Once you have located the file you wish to upload, say “feedback.php”, doubleclick it to upload it to your website. Alternatively, you can drag that file from the left window pane to the right window pane. The file will be uploaded to the folder that is currently open on the right window pane, so make sure you have changed to the directory you want before dragging the file there.
As FileZilla proceeds to upload your file to your site, you should be able to see the upload progress in the bottommost window pane in FileZilla. When the upload has completed, you can disconnect from your website. Do this by clicking the “Server” menu followed by the “Disconnect” item.

Congratulations! You have successfully uploaded a file to your website using an FTP client, FileZilla.

1) WMIC: A world of adventure awaits

Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) tidak hanya sebuah perintah; itu menjuk kepada systemnya sediri. WMIC dibangun pada Windows XP Professional, Windows 2003 dan Windows Vista.

2) The net command

While WMIC is a relatively new command, let's not lose site of some useful older commands. One of my favourites is the venerable "net" command. Administrators can use this to display all kinds of useful information.

For example, the "net user" command shows all user accounts defined locally on the machine. The "net localgroup" command shows groups, "net localgroup administrators" shows membership of the administrators group and the "net start" command shows running services.

Attackers frequently add users to a system or put their own accounts in the administrators groups, so it's always a good idea to check the output of these commands to see if an attacker has manipulated the accounts on a machine. Also, some attackers create their own evil services on a machine, so users should be on the lookout for them.

3) Openfiles: Deep scrutiny

Many Windows administrators are unfamiliar with the powerful openfiles command built into Windows. As its name implies, this command shows all files that are opened on the box, indicating the process name interacting with each file. It's built into modern versions of Windows, from XP Pro to Vista. Like the popular lsof command for Linux and Unix, it'll show administrators all open files on the machine, giving the process name and full path for each file. Unlike lsof, however, it doesn't provide many more details, such as process ID number, user number and other information.

Considering the volume of information it gathers, it's no surprise that the openfiles command is a performance hog. Thus, the accounting associated with openfiles is off by default, meaning users can't pull any data from this command until it is turned on. This function can be activated by running:

C:\> openfiles /local on

Users will need to reboot, and when the system comes back, they will be able to run the openfiles command as follows:

C:\> openfiles /query /v

This command will show verbose output, which includes the user account that each process with an open file is running under. To get an idea of what malware has been installed, or what an attacker may be doing on a machine, users should look for unusual or unexpected files, especially those associated with unexpected local users on the machine.

When finished with the openfiles command, its accounting functionality can be shut off and the system returned to normal performance by running the following command and rebooting:

C:\> openfiles /local off

4) Netstat: Show me the network

The Windows netstat command shows network activity, focusing on TCP and UDP by default. Because malware often communicates across the network, users can look for unusual and unexpected connections in the output of netstat, run as follows:

C:\> netstat -nao

The -n option tells netstat to display numbers in its output, not the names of machines and protocols, and instead shows IP addresses and TCP or UDP port numbers. The -a indicates to display all connections and listening ports. The -o option tells netstat to show the processID number of each program interacting with a TCP or UDP port. If, instead of TCP and UDP, you are interested in ICMP, netstat can be run as follows:

C:\> netstat -s -p icmp

This indicates that the command will return statistics (-s) of the ICMP protocol. Although not as detailed as the TCP and UDP output, users can see if a machine is sending frequent and unexpected ICMP traffic on the network. Some backdoors and other malware communicate using the payload of ICMP Echo messages, the familiar and innocuous-looking ping packets seen on most networks periodically.

Like WMIC, the netstat command also lets us run it every N seconds. But, instead of using the WMIC syntax of "/every:[N]", users simply follow their netstat invocation with a space and an integer. Thus, to list the TCP and UDP ports in use on a machine every 2 seconds, users can run:

C:\> netstat -na 2

5) Find: Searching output for useful stuff

Most of the commands I have discussed so far spew a lot of output on the screen, which could be hard for a human to look through to find a specific item of interest. But, Windows comes to the rescue. Users can search through the output of a command using the built-in find and findstr commands in Windows. The find command looks for simple strings, while findstr supports regular expressions, a more complex way to specify search patterns. Because the regular expressions supported by findstr go beyond the scope of this tip article, let's focus on the find command. By default, find is case sensitive - use the /i option to make it case insensitive.

The find command also has the ability to count. Invoked with the /c command, it'll count the number of lines of its output that include a given string. Users often want to count the number of lines in the output of a command to determine how many processes are running, how many startup items are present, or a variety of other interesting tidbits on a machine. To count the lines of output, users could simply pipe their output through find /c /v "". This command will count (/c) the number of lines that do not have (/v) a blank line ("") in them. By counting the number of non-blank lines, the command is, in effect, counting the number of lines.

Now, with the find command, users can look through the output of each of the commands I've discussed so far to find interesting tidbits. For example, to look at information every second about cmd.exe processes running on a machine, type:

C:\> wmic process list brief /every:1 | find "cmd.exe"

Or, to see which autostart programs are associated with the registry hive HKLM, run:

C:\> wmic startup list brief | find /i "hklm"

To count the number of files open on a machine on which openfiles accounting is activated, type:

C:\> openfiles /query /v | find /c /v ""

Whenever counting items in this way, remember to subtract the number of lines associated with column headers. And, as a final example, to see with one-second accuracy when TCP port 2222 starts being used on a machine, along with the process ID using the port, run:

C:\> netstat -nao 1 | find "2222"

Researching output

With these five tools, users can get a great deal of information about the configuration and security state of a Windows machine. To use each command in identifying a compromise, however, a user needs to compare the current settings of the machine under analysis to a "normal," uninfected machine.

There are three options for establishing a baseline comparison. First, if the user is an experienced malware hunter, he or she may have a sense of what is right and what is wrong with a given kind of machine, identifying evil or unusual stuff based on experience. Alternatively, this comparison can be performed against a clean, uninfected machine, if there is one handy. If there isn't, a user may need to rely on a third option -- researching specific files, process n
